Nail FAQs

What are gel nails?

Gels nails are an enhancement that adds strength to the natural nail. Gels can be applied directly over the nail, or used with forms or tips to add length. We use BioSculpture Gel, the only gel with a five star safety rating. Gels are cured under a UV light and have no fumes or odors. They are a healthy alternative to acrylic nails.

What is gel polish?

Gel polishes are new to the nail industry. They are a hybrid product, a cross between gel and polish. Gel polishes are applied like regular polish then cured under a UV or LED light and are completely dry at the finish of the cure cycle (30 sec to 2 minutes). Gel polishes produce a harder finish than regular polish. They don’t scratch or lose their shine, and they last much longer than regular polish; usually two to three weeks without chipping or peeling.

We offer over 100 gorgeous gel colors to choose from. Because gel polishes hold so well to the nail they are difficult to remove. Most salon technicians soak your nails in acetone for 10 to 15 minutes to remove gel polish. We DO NOT soak nails in acetone. See what makes us different below.

What is the difference between gel and gel polish?

Gel is used to protect and strengthen the natural nail. Gel polish is a long lasting polish but doesn’t provide strength to the natural nail. At Santa Fe Lashes we always use a BioSculpture base gel under all our gel polishes. This base coat protects and provides strength to your nails. Because we use the BioSculpture base gel, we don’t need to soak off the gel polish in acetone.
